Reliable home IT: WiFi, CCTV, and smart-home essentials

A calm, no-jargon guide to building a home setup that simply works for family, remote work, and security.

A home IT setup should fade into the background. WiFi that covers every room, CCTV you can check from your phone, and smart devices that work reliably without constant troubleshooting.

Start with the router. Most home WiFi problems trace back to a single underpowered router in the wrong location. A mesh system with two or three nodes placed thoughtfully solves most coverage issues immediately.

For CCTV at home, prioritize entry points: front door, side gates, garage. Two to four well-placed cameras with night vision are usually enough. Cloud or local recording depends on how comfortable you are with each option.

Smart-home devices work best when you pick one ecosystem and stick with it. Mixing platforms creates the kind of small daily friction that eventually makes people give up on smart homes entirely.
